Identifying the System ROM Family for Your Server

The availability of a variety of features within a single product series, such as system processors, video controllers, etc., have resulted in the need for different ROMs. The following information will help you correctly identify which ROM your system is running, so that you can select the correct ROMPaq software to upgrade your system successfully.

Identify the System ROM Family and Version for the server using any of the following methods.

Online Methods

  • The survey utility can be used to obtain the ROM family and date information. The survey utility is available for Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Linux.

  • From the HP Systems Insight Manager console, select the Configuration Icon. The ROM Family (for example, P41) and the date (for example, 10/21/1998) are displayed.

  • If the server has an Integrated Management Display, select SYSTEM INFO from the Main Menu. The ROM Family (for example, P41) and the date (for example, 10/21/1998) are presented as follows:

        P41 10/21/1998

Offline Methods

  • Reboot the server, and the Power On Self Test (POST) information includes the ROM Family and the ROM Version as follows:

    256MB Detected
    COMPAQ System BIOS - P41 (10/21/1998)
Copyright 1992, 1998 Compaq Computer Corporation. All rights reserved.

  • Use Compaq Diagnostics and Inspect Utility to report the System ROM.
Either run the utility from the F10 System Partition or from the booted diskette at server bootup. Select ROM from the Inspect menu to present the information as follows:

    >System ROM
    Revision . . . . . . . . . . 10/21/1998
    Family . . . . . . . . . . P41

Once you have identified the HP Server name and ROM Family, when more than one may exist, select the appropriate System ROMPaq for your server.
